“It has to be Lorenzo.” Olivia leaned forward. “Talk to him, Alex. I think he killed Candi.”

“Olivia, we have been over this before. I do not need you investigating or telling me who I need to interrogate. That is my job, not yours. I expect you to stay out of this.” Alex picked up a stack of papers on his desk and straightened them. “Am I making myself clear?”

Olivia sank back in her chair and crossed her arms. “Oh, you are making yourself perfectly clear.”

“Good. Is that all?” Alex placed the stack of papers in the corner of his desk.

“So you aren’t even going to ask me why I think Lorenzo killed Candi?”

“No, I’m not.” Alex leaned back in his chair.

Olivia stood up and put her hands on her hips. “I have useful information that will help you with your investigation. It is ridiculous that you won’t listen to me.” She smacked his desk.

Alex cocked his head and crossed his arms. “Olivia.”

“Don’t ‘Olivia’ me!” She stomped her foot. “I wouldn’t have come to talk to you if I didn’t think I had information that could help you.”

Alex stood up and sat on the edge of his desk. “I don’t doubt that you could help me. But finding out what happened to Candi is not your job.”

“Afraid someone else would get credit for catching him?”

Alex shook his head and threw up his hands. “No. Of course not.”

“Then why won’t you listen to me?”

“Olivia, I don’t want you to get hurt. If you start sniffing around this case, whoever is responsible will not take kindly to it. I don’t want you to be their next target.”

Olivia’s shoulders sank. “I appreciate that you don’t want me to get hurt. But I’m not talking about investigating Lorenzo. I just want to tell you why I think he is responsible for Candi’s death.”

“Fine. If I let you tell me what you know, you promise to drop this and not talk to anyone about it?”

Olivia nodded.

“You’ll stay away from Lorenzo and not question anyone.”

“That’s all I wanted to do in the first place. I don’t know why you have to be so infuriating!” Olivia threw herself back into the chair. “Can I tell you now?”

“Go for it.”

“Alright, did you know that Lorenzo and Candi were dating?”

Alex shook his head.

“He thought Candi was going to come back and be with him after her vacation, but instead she took a contract on another ship.”

“That’s not uncommon. Shipboard romances don’t have the best record for lasting.”

“I’m aware of that.” Olivia cocked her head.

“Candi taking another contract is not a reason for him to kill her.”

“I didn’t say it was.” Olivia exhaled. “Candi didn’t just get a new contract by herself. She got a contract with Peter. She was cheating on Lorenzo with him.”

“Wait, Peter. Your Peter?”

Olivia wrinkled her nose. “Ugh. Please don’t call that jerk my anything. But yes, that Peter.”

“If you think that Lorenzo could have killed Candi because she cheated on him, then why shouldn’t I look at you as a suspect? Apparently, Peter cheated on you with Candi.
